My paintings are a constant exploration into the world of gesture, color, and archaeology of the surface. The current mode in which I paint is a direct result of spending two years making monotypes. The technique I was using to create the prints was to use multiple layers of color and texture in a translucent format to accentuate all of the layers including the paper surface. In returning to painting and the yearning to create a “positive” gesture in the form of a painting stroke, I implemented the translucency and blind trust in the overlapping layers to create a new form of abstract composition in my painted work.
